Artois
From Ex illis wiki
The earldom of Artois is divided by a civil war. Thus, the lords and knights’ allegiance belongs to one of the belligerents who bitterly fight over this rich and prosperous territory. On the one side, Robert III d'Artois, grandson of the late count, is through with the French regime and King Philippe IV, and prefers to seek his own independence. A great number of warriors follow him and share his opinions. On the other side, Mahaut d'Artois supports Philippe IV and attempts to take back what she believes to be hers by right. She is assisted by knights who are loyal to the kingdom of France.
The region of Artois is a merchant one, home of numerous textile industries. In fact, it is renowned around the world (as far as Byzantium) for its famous Arras Tapestry produced in this city and well-known to be work of great quality. Numerous fleaudians populate this prosperous region where the merchants are constantly looking for workers.
Lords from Artois tend to easily switch allegiance, depending on the offers made to them. Thus, none of the two candidates manages to keep their armies formed for a very long time. The few battles that have taken place until now have been more chaotic than productive, leaving the belligerents in a complete confusion as to who the winner was. Ever since these battles, they are both looking for allies who could tip the scale in their favour.
