Bleeding Edge Knights
From Ex illis wiki
Bastion encourages the creation and the existence of a community centered around ludic activities. In order to help the community’s expansion, Bastion is looking for candidates from various geographical regions, people who are ready to rush headlong in the adventure and become one of the game’s official spokesperson. These specially selected people will be given the title of Bleeding Edge Knight and will form Bastion’s elite troops.
A Bleeding Edge Knight (BEK) is someone organising activities linked to the game Ex illis. He/she will be the game and the company’s standard bearer in a given region. He/she will then be able to host official demos, organise tournaments and convert players and stores. Activities linked to the game will enable him/her to earn BEK points. These points can be traded for goodies which are only available in this programme, such as the most powerful units in the game and much more!
This programme aims at rewarding and motivating the players involved within the community and actively contribute to its take off. Bastion encourages its BEK to share their experience with players and retailers in their region and to try to stimulate their interest. At the moment, it is preferable to focus on simple and easy-to-organise events in order to enable the Ex illis community to grow.
If you think that you are cut out to be a knight, follow these few simple steps to start your initiation to become a Bleeding Edge Knight.

First step: Enrolment
When you are ready, send an e-mail to contactus@bastionstudio.com :
- Briefly explain the goals and motivations pushing you to become a BEK player;
- Also, write about how miniature wargames interest and inspire you;
- Do not forget to mention your local store and town’s name.
Second step: Training
If the analysis of your application turns out positive, you will start your training. To succeed in this step, you must:
- Buy and activate an Ex illis starter kit (you must send us your username);
- Paint your miniatures;
- Send Bastion pictures of your painted army as well as a picture of you (we prefer to deal with people rather than codes);
- Fill in the Ex illis quiz (a mini-quiz enabling us to know if the BEK possesses a background knowledge of the game);
- Specify if you are a store clerk or an active member of a gaming club;
- Send us your contact details: full address, phone number and the name of the store where you regularly play.
You have one month to complete the training. Just send everything to contactus@bastionstudio.com.
If you succeed brilliantly in all these steps, you will receive a phone call from a representative. You will then officially enter the guild of the Bleeding Edge Knights. You will then be able to rush headlong onto the battlefield to prove your worth. The following sections are there to show you the way. It is now your turn to earn your stripes within the community.
There are various events recognised by the BEK programme. However, for now, Bastion focuses on a few specific activities while also planning on widening the programme as the number of members increases. For each type of community event, a predetermined number of BEK points will be given. Each BEK will then have the possibility to trade his/her points for prizes. All means of sharing the Ex illis experience are welcome. Thus, if you publish photos or videos of an Ex illis event and that you provide an Internet link, you earn BEK points. It is not required to be the event organiser: being a BEK is all it takes.
- For any photo report judged relevant by a Bastion representative, 10 BEK points will be awarded.
- For a valid video report, you will earn 20 BEK points.
These prizes should arouse keen interest due to their value and to the symbol they represent among the community as they
usually are limited edition prizes and are, most of the time, exclusive to BEKs.
To win BEK points, you must make sure the event fulfils the requirements listed below. These validation criteria have two main
objectives:
- Equity among the members of the guild;
- The representation of the Ex illis corporate image as designed by the Bastion team.
Thus, any event organised under the sponsorship of the BEK programme must be measurable and verifiable. It must take place:
- Either in a retail outlet with the retailer’s support (an event held in a club also hast to be supported by a retailer);
- Or as part of a trade show in which it has to be recognised by the organisers.
1) Demo
Official definition
This includes events aimed at a public of laypeople to whom the game Ex illis is presented for the first time or a group of people who do not already own a starter kit. Here, the goal of the BEK is to convert new players by using his/her Mentor card. The same thinking can be applied to a store, the goal being to encourage the retailer to place a first order.
Acceptance conditions
Before the event: The event must be announced in a message on the forum at least 7 days before it is held and in an e-mail to contactus@bastionstudio.com specifying the date, place and estimated scope of the event.
After the event: The BEK must send an event report in which he/she states the date, place, names of the people participating in the event, the number of Mentor cards distributed and the objectives reached during the event.
Reward: The best way to measure the success of a demo is to calculate the number of converted players/stores which is
why several BEK points are attributed for achieved conversions, but not for the event itself. Nevertheless, a demo is worth 50
Renown points if it respects the conditions stated above.
For demos, badges are awarded as follow:
Flael Novice: received after the third demo.
Flael Intermediary: received after the sixth demo.
Flael Pro: received after the tenth demo.
2) Tournaments
Official definition
It refers to any event in which Ex illis players take part, i.e. having at least one activated starter kit. We make a distinction between two types of tournaments:
- Small tournament: 6 to 12 players + one organiser
- Big tournament: 12 players and +
Acceptance conditions
Before the event: The event must be announced in a message on the forum at least 7 days before it is held and in an e-mail to contactus@bastionstudio.com specifying the date, place and estimated scope of the event.
After the event: The tournament tree and the names of the players (real and username) as well as the name of the winner
must be published on the Ex illis forum. The BEK must send an event report in which he/she states the date, place, names of the people participating in the event, the number of Mentor cards distributed and the objectives reached during the event.
For tournament badges, see Badges page.
3) Conversion
Definition and conditions
It refers to brand new players or stores introduced by a BEK. For a player conversion to be valid, the latter has to activate his/her starter kit and write the name of the BEK player in the Mentor section. As for a store conversion, the manager’s confirmation will be required with the first order. If the store places an order within the 10 working days following the event, the points will be awarded.
Rewards:
- See Badges page.
4) Pass the Ex illis background knowledge test
Definition
