Setting Up An Account
To play Ex illis, each player needs an online account. This is the place where you can see all of your units and where all the meta-gaming activities (gaining levels, creating musters) take place. To set up an account, go to the Ex illis home page (ex-illis.com) and fill in the information under the “Start Now” section. All you need is a valid email address.
A confirmation email will be sent to your email address within ten minutes. Check your spam folder as such emails can sometimes be filtered out by your computer. If there is still no sign of the confirmation email after ten minutes, drop us a line at support@bastionstudio.com and we will be glad to help.
Click on the link in the confirmation email to finish setting up your account. Once you are done, you will be able to enter your units’ activation code if you already have some. This code is located on the inner flap of unit boxes and starter kits. You will need to specify what kind of code it is and be sure to make the difference between the starter kit (with the printed board) and the integral kit (with the plastic board).
Important: Choose a username that you like and can remember easily. You will use it to log into the website and into the game.
Installing And Updating The Game
The Ex illis gaming software can run on PCs (and laptops), Macs (and Macbooks) and iPhones (and iPods Touch). Each device has its own installation and updating method.
ON PCs
To install the game on a PC, you can either use the DVD or download the game from your account’s homepage. If you use the DVD, you will still need to download part of the game, but the transfer will be significantly reduced.
You may be prompted to install a redistribution license from Microsoft Visual Studio at the end of the process. You need to accept this in order to complete the installation.
The update process is also quite simple. If an update is available, you will be warned when you start the game. Simply accept the update and it will be downloaded and installed automatically.
ON MACs
Macs have the advantage of being simpler for the user, but the disadvantage of being heavier in the process. To install the game, go onto your account’s homepage and click on the Mac download. The game is pre-packaged and will run on its own.
When the game tells you a new update is available, simply go back to the website and click on the Mac download again. As it is pre-packaged, you will be able to play this new version without installing it but it also means each update requires a full download (similar to installing a new version of iTunes).
ON iPHONEs
The iPhone version shares the same Apple simplicity but also the same weight. To install the game, you only need to go to the AppStore and type “Ex illis” in the search field. Click on the application called “Ex illis EN” (for the English version) and it will automatically download and install the game.
Updates are handled by Apple itself. Check the AppStore and download the new version from there.
